Since I have found out that I am going to Korea, I thought that I would create a blog as many people do these days so I can document the entire year. The whole process has happened very quickly from the initial phone call to getting on a plane to go to Korea, which will be my home for the next year. All of that will happen in less than three weeks, which is a little overwhelming. Just a background on where I am going: I will be living in a city called Jeonju and it is in South Korea of course, not the North! It has a population of about 700,000 and still has an Outback Steakhouse and McDonald's for when you need to experience the Western lifestyle. I will be teaching at a school called SLP. It is actually called a hagwon, which is something that Korean students go to above and beyond their normal schooling for help in subjects such as math, english or science. So it will be kind of weird that people will soon be calling me a teacher there.
One of the bonuses of teaching in Korea is that you have to get a one year work visa in order to do that. In order to get one however, you must be outside of the country. So my school will be sending me to Japan for a few days once I get there in order to get my Visa, so I am really excited to check out the sights there. Although I have no idea what the sights are, so recommendations are welcome!
That is all I will write about for now since I am not even in Korea yet. But I am very excited to start the journey in less than two weeks!
